The Brief

Garden art studio, Leigh Woods

Our client, having previously completed a house renovation with Nest, returned to us with a new project: the conversion of an unused garage into a garden room and art studio. Excited to collaborate once again, we set to work designing a functional and creative space. As part of the process, our in-house architects meticulously prepared and submitted the necessary planning permission, ensuring a smooth path to bringing this vision to life.

The Challenge

The key objective was to create a peaceful, self-contained space where our client could retreat and focus on their art. The existing structure was a bare breeze block shell with an open front, lacking essential amenities such as electricity, plumbing, and heating. The vision for the studio included the addition of bathroom and kitchen facilities, enabling the client to be entirely self-sufficient and ensuring the space could be comfortably used year-round.

The Solution

Our design for the garden room included a kitchenette, bathroom, office, and studio space, fulfilling all of the client’s functional requirements. The exterior was clad in materials that, combined with thoughtful landscaping, gave the structure the aesthetic of a modern Scandinavian hut. Over time, as the surrounding shrubbery grows, the studio will blend seamlessly into the natural beauty of Leigh Woods. The result is a tranquil, self-sufficient retreat that offers the perfect escape from the main house, providing a peaceful space for both work and relaxation.
